Robert Elliot Fox
Robert Elliot Fox is Professor of English and Africana Studies at Southern Illinois University, Carbondale. He was educated at Cornell, Berkeley, and the State University of New York at Buffalo. From 1978 to 1985, he taught at the University of Ife in Nigeria. The author of two scholarly books—Conscientious Sorcerers (1987) and Masters of the Drum (1995)—Fox has been a visiting scholar at the W.E.B. Du Bois Institute for African American Research at Harvard University, the recipient of a senior fellowship from the American Council of Learned Societies, and a USIA-sponsored lecturer in India. Since the sixties he has published numerous poems in such journals and anthologies as The Fifth Season, Yardbird Reader, Anonym Quarterly, San Francisco Phoenix, Beau Fleuve, Ijala, Okike, West Africa, ISALA: Ife Studies in African Literature and the Arts, Selected Poetry of the XVII Festival of Contemporary Arts, Venture, Postcolonial Text and Convergence. Masks of Light is his first book of poems.
